I’ve explored Calabria from the north to the tip of its toe, visited countless hilltop towns, traversed almost every mile of coastline, and eaten more bowls of pasta than I care to admit. Yet as an English visitor, the one thing I always struggled to find was information on Calabria – where to go, what to discover, how to explore. So this project was born.
My site is full of reliable advice, insider tips and first-hand recommendations. My aim is to help you to make the most of your trip to this wild yet wonderful land. It’s time to discover the real Italy.

Perché la Calabria? (Why Calabria?)… the most common question I was asked when travelling around the region and meeting the local people. And it was a good question. You could count me as a little strange, spending my early twenties – straight from university – driving round this unknown region of Italy. There certainly weren’t any other foreigners doing the same thing.
But forget gap years in India or ‘finding myself’ in Bali – I had fallen in love. The local people welcomed you like family, invited you into their culture and around their tables. And as the project grew, they were proud of the beautiful light that I was able to shine on their homeland, on a region so often shrouded with nothing but stories of the mafia and corruption.
I lived in Calabria for a few years in my early twenties, living the good life, and still return every year for weeks on end. I will always keep discovering more and it will always be my second home. So come and explore Calabria with me.
